The design of a chair remains one of the most difficult challenges for any designer. After an initial study of various precedents, each designer studied and designed a 1:1 prototype of the chair. An emphasis was placed on understanding fabrication techniques and mass production.

The design for the Chair Lounge attemps to find a way to provide both an upright chair and a reclined lounge with only a single hinge point. The different back angles required are accounted for with a shaped cushion that provides an upslope on one side for a seat and a down slope for the back support as a lounge. A maple frame and hollow aluminum tubes allows the chair to be light (weighing in at just over 10 pounds) while also being sturdy
